TYPE OF WORK EXERCISE
Operation Unified Protector began on March 31 under NATO leadership, officially
marking the transition from Operation Odyssey Dawn, in enforcement of United
Nations Security Council Resolutions 1970 and 1973. The goal of Operation
Unified Protector was to protect civilians and civilian-populated areas under
attack or threat of attack. The mission was focused on three main areas: an arms
embargo, a no-fly-zone and actions to protect civilians from attack or the threat of
attack. I was able to witness myself, the first operational flights on March 30 & 31,
with F-15E Strike Eagle, F-16CJ Fighting Falcon, EA-18G Growler and O/A-
10A´s. And last but not least, the local 31FW F-16CG Fighting Falcon at Aviano
AB, Italy.
